Guardian Angel Religious Award

Purpose

The Purpose of the Guardian Angel Religious Award is to recognize Tiger Cubs and Daisy Girl Scouts for advancement in religious knowledge and spiritual formation as they try to develop a spiritual knowledge of how God Protects them in every area of their lives.

Who is eligible?

Any Catholic child can work for this award if he or she is either a registered Tiger Cub with the Boy Scouts of America, or a registered Daisy Girl Scout with Girl Scouts USA. In addition, he or she must be registered and attending either a Catholic School, Catholic Home Study, or the parish sponsored Religious Education Program.

Local Diocesan Medal

Please note that this is not a national award, but a local award being administered within the Diocese of Arlington. The award can be approved and acquired from the Catholic Committee on Scouting and Camp Fire, Diocese of Arlington. The idea and basic format for this program was conceived and developed by the New Orleans Area Council Catholic Committee on Scouting. Tiger Cubs do not wear the BSA Youth Religious Emblem Square knot on their uniform. That is earned with the Light of Christ Catholic Religious Emblem as a Wolf Cub Scout.

The medal for this award must be presented to the Tiger Cub or Daisy Scout at a Mass. It can be done either in the local parish or at the Diocesan Annual Mass for Scouting and Camp Fire held in February.

Procedures for earning and obtaining the award

When you click on the "Continue" button, it will open a download window for a Word document. Please print it out. Have your Scout put it in a special notebook or binder that they will want to keep throughout their entire Scouting experience. A three ring binder works well and allows for insertion of pages that your Scout will collect , such as valuable badges, documents or advancement cards. Teach them to respect the binder as it will represent who they will become. Once lost, you or your Scout will not have the ability to easily, if possible, replace them.

Once your Scout has completed the pages of the Guardian Angel Award Program Workbook, complete the last two pages and forward them with a check payable to "CCOS" in the amount of $5.00. You will find the address on the form. Once the committee receives the form and check, the Vice Chair for Religious Emblems will forward the award to you. The Scout receives the award as stated in the preceding section.
